Concordis was established by an enthusiastic group of school leavers who decided to keep on singing by enlisting their school choral director as conductor of a new choir. Membership has since spread to encompass choristers from all over Melbourne.
The primary motivation of members, however, has remained constant. That of a common love for making music, singing with a view to continuous development of skill, and enjoyment of good company. All members volunteer their services when required and contribute financially to help meet the choir's expenses. Concordis is self-funding, generating most of its income from membership, concerts, festivals and competitions.
The choir could not continue without the tireless support of our Artistic Director, Andrew Hunter, and Composer in Residence, Nicholas Buc. Their dedication to the choir's development has helped Concordis reach new heights of musicality and professionalism. Click on their names for more information:
A ten member committee works extremely hard to plan and coordinate the choir's activities throughout the year. The committee comprises a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, four ordinary members, the Artistic Director and Assistant Director. The committee members are elected annually at the Concordis AGM.
The choir rehearses every Monday during the school term from 7.30 - 10.00 pm in the James Forbes Academy at Scotch College in Hawthorn.
