Having celebrated 10 years of outstanding choral music in 2008, Concordis has firmly established itself as one of Australia's finest choral ensembles. Since the first tentative meeting of school leavers in 1998, Concordis Chamber Choir has grown into a group of 40 young men and women auditioned from across Melbourne and regional Victoria. The choir's repertoire is eclectic and personal; deliberately diverse in an effort to demonstrate that choirs do not have to limit themselves to performing only one style of music. The music of Australian composers is an important emphasis for Concordis, with a special place in their repertoire also kept for the music of assistant director, accompanist and now established Australian composer Nicholas Buc.
Musical highlights from ten years of singing include acclaimed performances of the Mozart Requiem and Great Mass in C minor with Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, performances in the state and national finals of the ABC Choir of the Year competition, appearances on ABC TV's Spicks & Specks Christmas Special with Dame Edna Everage, Sunday Arts, and numerous state and national radio broadcasts. In 2009 the choir performed and recorded the full orchestra versions of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and the Durufle Requiem; a performance which has received significant radio airplay. They appeared in Monash Arts-in-the-round and concluded the year with sell-out performances of their ever-popular Christmas Cabaret Concerts.
Concordis' singers come from all walks of life; some are students in various university courses, others are professionals in a wide variety of fields. The choir aims to offer young adult singers the opportunity to extend often already formidable solo vocal skills into the choral context. The choir's goal is to pursue excellence in choral singing, with an emphasis on the performance of high quality, yet accessible and enjoyable choral music.
